One of the means for achieving the goals is to foster effective sponsorship and participation in international conferences. TC32 is currently involved in co-sponsorship of the following events:

More information about these conferences and events will be posted on the committee's web site (see Item 8 below).

  1. Ideas for involvement in sponsorship of sessions in international conferences

Potential for workshops in tandem with major international events shall also be explored. Need to invite professionals to submit their day-to-day problems and have members of TC32 contribute risk-based approaches and solutions to them.

  1. Ideas for committee projects
  1. Cooperation with other committees and professional groups

A list of natural candidates for cooperation follows:

Additional suggestions are invited.

  1. Web site for TC-32
  2. The chairman reported that member Gordon Fenton (Canada) has offered to develop the site and its links with the ISSMGE site. The offer was accepted with the understanding that there should be close interaction with the Committee's Secretary. Expect an email soon with the URL of the web site.

  3. New business
  4. The need to make the work of the Committee visible to the insurance, mining, and geo-environmental (remediation, etc.) industries was recalled as a possible source of funds and new business. Members of the committee should search for such opportunities.

  5. Future committee meetings

The Chairman of TC32 emphasized the fact that most of the work of the Committee shall be conducted through the Internet. Advantage shall be taken of International or Regional Conferences to promote meetings of members of TC32 present at those events.

The next meeting of the committee, informal, is expected to take place at ICASP-8 in Sydney in December 1999. As the Chair will not be able to attend, the meeting will be called and conducted by the Vice-Chair, Prof. Wilson Tang or, in case he too cannot attend, by another member present at ICASP-8.
