TC32
RISK ASSESSMENT AND MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
Minutes
|
Members present at the ASCE Geo-InstituteConference in Denver included
Bourdeau, Fenton, Gilbert, Lacasse, Wu and Tang. We had an informal
gathering on August 6, 2000 around 8pm at the MarriotTech Center, Denver,
Colorado. Observers included Cheung and Tumay.
- Tang began by welcoming all members present.
- It was decided that TC-32 will plan a short course on risk and
reliability in geotechnical engineering in Istanbul during the next ISSMGE
Conference in August 27-31, 2001. The short course will be in collaboration
with the ASCE G-I Risk Assesment and management Committee. Since Lacasse
will be involved with another short course on offshore geotechnical
engineering at the same time, she will explore if some synchronization could
be made between the two courses. Lacasse and Tang will try to contact the
conference organizer in Turkey to check if it is too late to include the
short course in the conference. Fenton will co-ordinate the course lecture
topics and instructors. Tentative list of instructors include Vanmarcke,
Bolle, Gilbert, Tang, and Fenton.
- It was proposed that the same short course be presented in Hong Kong in
conunction with the Southeas Asian Geotechnical Conference (SEAGC) in
December 2001. Tang will work with the organiser of SEAGC on launching the
short course. Information on this conference can be obtained at
http://www.14seagc.org members are encouraged to attend the conference.
The deadline for submitting abstracts has been deferred to October 15, 2000.
- TC-32 plans to hold a committee meeting during the ISSMGE Conference in
Turkey (August 2001) and also during the SEAGC in Hong Kong (December 2001).
- The meeting was adjourned at approximately 9 pm.
